Technology has changed everything. There isn’t a single aspect of our lives that has not been affected in some way by the advancements made in computer technology over the last decade. From how we watch television to how we communicate, things are constantly changing leaving us scrambling to catch up.

Entertainment options are where we have seen the greatest advancements. The video store is gone as consumers download movies online and watch them back on their high definition television sets. Digital technology has also changed how people get their music with internet downloads replacing CDs. MP3 players can now store thousands of songs in a simple way that the music can be easily sorted.

Even entertainment options like visiting a casino have changed. Virtual casinos are winning business away from the brick and mortar complexes which offer slot machines and table games. Now people only have to go online to find a place to take a chance on roulette or find somewhere to play bingo. The Internet has brought those games of chance into our homes any hour of any day. Forget about locating the nearest church or lodge that is hosting a game; there is somewhere to play bingo on the web any time you want.

The breakthroughs that have occurred in the last decade make you wonder what might be next. Is there anything that the next generation of smartphones will not be able to do? 3-D television is already being replaced by 4-D machines which do not require wearing special glasses for viewing. One thing you can bet on is companies will continue to develop new technologies to keep us entertained.

Green Technologies – Do Computers And Laptops Really Help Save The Environment?

Many persons have the opinion that computers and laptops are good for the environment because it helps save paper. Paper is made out of wood and wood is obtained from trees. Hence, using computers helps save paper. This is a simplistic notion at best.

What about the various components of computers? What about the plastic used? What about the electricity that is utilized to power the computer? This electricity is generated by burning coal which in turn will pollute the environment. Further, coal too represents trees that have become fossil fuels today.

Some argue that burning coal is better than cutting down trees but the ground reality is that computers and other technological devices merely transfer the harm done to the environment from deforestation to polluting gases.

The option of using solar powered computers and laptops is always present. However, such persons acknowledge that one can use recycled paper instead of shiny new paper for each and every task. A holistic approach and keen examination reveals that computers need not be better than paper as far as environment and its protection is concerned.

Insofar as the environment is concerned, the computer is no different than paper. Instead of trying to choose the lesser evil, it is important to move on to the next step and find a technological solution that helps balance convenience and performance with obligations to the environment.

Not doing so may force us into a situation where we have to cut down on computers as well as paper. The best option is to use technology to solve the problems created by technology.

Apollo Project For Our Time

The race is on.  Which nation is it going to be?  President Obama is determined that it will once again be the United States that comes out on top when it comes to innovation and technology. There are many different areas that the President mentioned in his State of the Union address to the nation.

When it comes to computers, you would think that the US is out in the front, but last year, China produced a computer that is 40% faster then our best supercomputer. Computers are necessary in this modern age for defense as well as many medical applications.

One of the more promising areas of interest is Genomic Research.  Genomic research is looking into the possibility of creating personalized medicine.  This means that medicine would be based specifically on your particular DNA makeup.  It would be tailored to you.  Imagine being able to know all about you DNA, and when you have a weakening area of your body, being able to have a medical solution that is absolutely perfect for you.  No more being a human guinea pig.

Additionally, a call for better batteries was made.  In order to cut back on using resources, there would need to be a replacement for traveling using gasoline.  Having longer lasting batteries would make it possible to have electric cars in the future.  Right now, they are not as realistic because of their battery life and their MPH. There are many all battery cars, but they need to be recharged within 12 hours and cannot go long distances, or at very high speeds.

Whatever the innovation or technology ends up being, the race is on to find it. It is exciting to think about what new innovation our children will experience, that they will grow up thinking has always existed.  It is much like voicemail today, when did we ever have answering machines?

Best Baby Products

So, you are going to have a baby, a precious bundle of joy.  As a new parent it can be confusing to figure out what products are necessary, and what ones you can do without.  Many new parents buy their child incredible amounts of products, clothing and toys that they never even use, or find were not very cost effective.

When bringing a baby home, the basic things that you will need are:

  • Diapers (can be cloth or disposable)
  • Bottles (If you are not breastfeeding)

  • Receiving blankets
  • Burp cloths
  • Wipes (disposable or cloth)
  • Diaper ointment
  • Crib or bassinet
